Drama Club will start off the 2013-14 school year with its Annual performance of the Thespian show.
This year’s Thespian show is in the hands of senior Vice President Noelle Mefford and senior Scribe Jessica Barnes. Together they co-directed the play written by Don Zolidis. The Drama Club Director, Mrs. Kate Motley, let the students be completely independent when producing this performance.
This year’s show is a “crazy and hilarious twist on Grimm fairy tales,” senior Sarah Edmonds said.
The play has “every well-known fairy tale mashed up into one giant super story,” Barnes said.
“It will rock your world with very weird humor and ancient fairy tales,” senior Miles Wright said, “Since the stories are originally German, they are much more sinister and gruesome, so we had to manipulate that into a comedy.”
According to Barnes, since the performance is completely student based and only for thespians, it’s really the first opportunity to reveal what drama club does, what they have to offer and what an amazing facility they have.
“We direct, cast, pick the costumes, and do everything involving tech,” Barnes said.
As a director, Mefford said the most challenging thing for her was “being tough on people if they were misbehaving,” because she doesn’t like being harsh.
“The Thespian show is a great opportunity for people who are usually in costumes, tech publicity, or even the pit orchestra to have their chance on stage,” Barnes said, “During the show season people in other areas don’t always act. But if they ever wanted to, the Thespian show is good for experimenting, to see if they like it.”
This year’s play will be performed for friends and family to see on Thursday, September 5 in the evening, and for students to watch with their English class on Friday, September 6 during the day.
