After years of waiting and confusion, fans of alternative rock band Breaking Benjamin can finally rest easily. Six years since the release of their junior album “Dear Agony,” the bands fifth studio album, “Dark Before Dawn,” will hit shelves on June 23.
Twelve years after formation, the band called a hiatus due to the illnesses of vocalist and rhythm guitarist Benjamin Burnley. After a legal dispute with the founding members, and Burnley gaining rights to the band’s name, he said there were plans to bring the band back together once the lawsuit was settled.
On August 19, 2014, via Facebook, Breaking Benjamin announced their reformation. This time, they were to return with all new members apart from Burnley. In September of the same year, Breaking Benjamin performed two shows with the all new lineup for the first time. Both were sold out.
Six months after photos of the band in the studio surfaced, the world got its first taste of the quintets’ music. Not straying from the original Breaking Benjamin sound, “Failure,” the first single off of the upcoming album, took airwaves by storm March 23. Although they have an almost entirely new lineup, it sounds as if the band hasn’t missed a beat the last five years. The guitar riffs reflect those on “So Cold” from the 2004 album “We Are Not Alone.” The drum beats and bass notes aren’t far from Breaking Benjamins older music either. Fans of the earlier albums won’t be disappointed.
The bands first nationwide tour since the hiatus begins on April 17 in Pharr, Texas. Breaking Benjamin stops in St. Louis on May 23 to headline Pointfest with artists like Seether, The Used and Chevelle. “Dark Before Dawn” can be purchased on June 23.
