‘Girls’ to Return to HBO for Final Season

The ‘20s are quite possibly the most important years of one’s life. This is the time when people begin to find their true identity and shape themselves into the person they want to be.

In HBO’s “Girls,” creator Lena Dunham documents these rocky years for four friends living in New York City. Through the show’s first five seasons, Hannah Horvath (Lena Dunham), Marnie Michaels (Allison Williams), Jessa Johansson (Jemima Kirke) and Shoshanna Shapiro (Zosia Mamet) try to remain close friends as they navigate these trying years, but their lives begin to diverge as they experience heartbreak, love and everything in between.

Now, with the show going on its sixth and final season, viewers can be sure to expect more of the fantastically awkward plotlines and quirky characters that make the show what it is.

In season five, all four girls grew apart as relationships and careers got in the way. Marnie and Hannah have constantly butted heads over Marnie’s new singing career and narcissistic personality, and Hannah and Jessa completely lost all contact with each other because of Jessa’s unexpected decision to date Hannah’s ex-boyfriend.

In the season six trailers, we see Hannah and Jessa attempting to repair their relationship when Jessa tells Hannah that, “Regardless of everything that’s happened, you are still my dear friend.”

It appears that the two girls have a lot to work through, however, as Hannah replies saying “I don’t think we’ve ever acted like friends.”

Because this is the final season of “Girls,” we can likely expect to see the women finally show some maturity as young adults and find closure for the broken relationships and friendships they have left in their wake.

This wonderfully weird and clever piece of television is sure to go out with a bang on Feb. 12 as Dunham uses her powerful writing and vast imagination to shape season six into one to remember.
