‘Culture II’ Disappoints

The much anticipated Culture II album was released last Friday nearly one year after the original Culture album.

Culture II features 24 songs and stretches an hour and 45 minutes long. But did the album live up to the hype?

The short answer is no. The album quality did not even compare to the previous album. Culture II lacked a major hit song and did not focus on “trap” music that satisfies the tastes of many high school students.

Instead, the album was more of a techno-singing album with repeating choruses.

Songs like “BBO,” “Narcos,” “Walk It Talk It,” “Open It Up,” and “White Sand” were all solid, but the rest of the album was rather mediocre. When listening to the album I found myself wanting to skip multiple songs, which is very rare for a Migos album.

“I rate it about a 4/24. A lot of the songs repeat themselves over and over again,” sophomore Owen Lappe said. “But BBO is a certified banger.”

Junior Michael Lane said that compared to Culture, Culture II is simply “not nearly as good.” Lappe concurred and said that “Culture changed the world.”

Culture II had features from big names like Drake, 21 Savage, Travis Scott, Gucci Mane, TY Dolla Sign, Post Malone and 2 Chainz, which was a positive.

However, many of the songs these big artists featured on were not the best and lacked that “banger” quality of songs like “Slippery” and “Bad and Boujee” from Culture.

“They should’ve focused on about 10 to 12 songs that were really good instead of having 24 that were just OK,” Lane said.

When it boils down to it, I expected more from Migos. Culture II was excessively anticipated and a disappointing album.

“I’m not that impressed,” senior Emily Voss said. “There are some good songs on the album but overall I’m not a fan.”
