“Dress to Impress” is going viral with 2.7 billion visits on popular game platform Roblox.
The “Dress to Impress” craze has rapidly popularized this year; the game was originally released on Oct. 18 and is quickly becoming a go-to choice for Roblox users.
Appearing in screenshots at the end of dump posts on Instagram, or viral videos on TikTok, “Dress to Impress” is seen all over the internet.
Only playable on Roblox, DTI has brought a new life back to the 20-year-old gaming platform.
DTI is like other fashion games available on Roblox, or on other websites and apps. In 2016 a popular fashion show game, “Fashion Famous”, was released to the gaming platform, becoming a fan favorite for Roblox veterans. However, the game was surpassed in visits by DTI, now standing at 2.3 billion, after being playable for nearly eight years.
“[I was] raised on Fashion Famous” Estelle Borden said.
Borden gives credit for the popularity difference between the two games to social media.
“It [Fashion Famous] was really popular, it just wasn’t all over TikTok and Instagram.” Borden said.
A major difference between the games is the graphics. “Dress to Impress” changes the roblox avatar body to be more human-like, while the “Fashion Famous” avatars are unchanged, and the graphics are less advanced. DTI is unlike the other fashion games available on Roblox, because of its realistic rendered textures.
Currently including nearly 350 themes, players can dress to impress in new ways for every round.
When a round begins the players are given a theme to dress to. With different clothing items to choose from, participants decide patterns and colors they want each piece to display. After five and a half minutes, players walk the runway showing off their fashionable outfits. Players then vote on each other’s looks to reveal a top three podium after votes have been cast.
DTI is frequently receiving updates to remain relevant to players. The recent ‘BRAT’ update partnered with Charli XCX, and was a successful collaboration. The “BRAT” album gained a lot of popularity as DTI did. Their collaboration encouraged Charli XCX listeners to play DTI, and brought new listeners to Charli XCX from the game. The update added her music into the game, along with new clothing items and other “BRAT” themed features.
