After winning her 14th Grammy and becoming the first artist to win album of the year this past Sunday, Taylor Swift shocked fans by announcing that her upcoming album, “The Tortured Poets Department,” will be released April 19.
With 92.6% of 121 Swiftie students anticipating an announcement for the release date of “reputation (Taylor’s Version),” shock corresponded with Swift’s announcement of her upcoming album of which she is a chairman.
But non-Swifties were also surprised.
“I’m not a fan of hers, but I respect what she has built,” freshman Emily Odneal said. “Since a lot of my friends are Swifties, I’ve heard how they were expecting ‘reputation,’ so even though I’m not really in the loop, I was shocked.”
This announcement has left many with strong feelings.
“I can’t wait for her new album, but I am disappointed that she isn’t releasing [‘reputation,’]” junior Adam Roter said. “I was expecting her to announce [‘reputation’] because of all the Easter Eggs she’s had that point to it.”
However, not all students care about this topic. Only 41.3% of non-Swifties heard about her new album.
“I don’t understand the hype around [Swift,]” freshman Drew McFarland said. “I’m not a fan of hers, and I don’t like how much she has infiltrated society. I don’t care about her albums or her relationship with [Travis Kelce.] I’d prefer to hear about something [more] important.”
