As the temperatures get warmer and the school year starts to wrap up, most students turn their attentions to the upcoming finals and their exciting summer plans. However, for our student council, they have an extremely important decision to make: who will be running the organization next school year?
The responsibilities of student council president include setting up events such as homecoming, prom, Mr. EHS and several other pep-rallies and school events. The role also includes being able to work with members of the administration to make important decisions that affect the students of EHS.
This year’s race included three long-standing members of STUCO, Alyssa Ragsdale, Lucy Schapman and former historian Josie Rutledge.
The three each delivered a roughly three-minute speech on why they would be the best fit as next year’s student council president and then the remaining members of the council voted on their choice.
Schapman was announced as the winner of the vote and therefore the next student council president.
Ragsdale received second place and was named next year’s vice president.
Rutledge will serve in a council role for the next school year.
Each of the three were highly regarded members of the council in their last positions.
“They’ve all been around STUCO for a while and have put a lot of time and energy into this club.” Senior Ryan Kimmey said. “They all earned the opportunity to compete for the presidents spot and they will all represent the club well next year.”
With Schapman at the helm and Ragsdale and Rutledge behind her, EHS is in good hands for the future.
