From bakeries to tattoo parlors, Edwardsville Main Street has always offered a variety of shops and businesses for Edwardsville residents to choose from. And to add to the list, Main Street now has a candle shop.
According to the Edwardsville Intelligencer, Keepsake Candle Company, owned by Kristin McCaw, will have its grand opening on the corner of Main Street Feb. 1.
McCaw believes this is the perfect location for her business.
“I kept coming back to that downtown location because I felt like it was the spot to be,” McCaw told the Intelligencer. “It was right on the corner. It was situated between Cleveland Heath and a potential new business going in. That was exciting.”
The shop will not only provide customers with a place to shop, but somewhere they can have an experience, such as pouring their own candles.
The store will sell candles, home decor pieces, items from other small businesses and a candle pouring bar, according to the Intelligencer.
Shoppers can make their own candles and choose the scent and color.
“People will be able to come in and pick their own vessel and pick … or make their own custom scent,” McCaw said. “We will keep the custom scent on file for them if it is something we typically don’t make.”
Once poured, candles will take 30 minutes to set.
Keepsake Candle Company is environmentally friendly and sells candles that are safe and user-friendly.
According to McCaw, the store uses coconut apricot wax, which is plant-based, and sustainably sourced wood wicks.
“Patrons can rest assured that what they’re breathing is clean,” she said. “It’s not toxic.”
McCaw said her vision is to bring a calm and relaxing environment to each customer’s home.
While many students at EHS hadn’t previously heard about the new candle shop, some believe it will be a good addition to Main Street and Edwardsville as a whole.
“This shop will be a good way to bring variety to Edwardsville,” senior Sophia Carruthers said. “While many stores offer similar products, this one will be unique. It’s different.”
Junior Ariana Muratov also looks forward to the grand opening of the shop and the options it will soon offer.
“I’m excited for the store to open,” she said. “I now have somewhere new to purchase my candles and also support a small business, so I would call this a win.”
According to the Intelligencer, Keepsake Candle Company is set to be open 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Wednesdays and Thursdays, 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays and 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sundays.
“The whole basis behind the company is that everything is supposed to be aesthetic in your home or sentimental,” McCaw said. “I love to be surrounded by beautiful things and the calming, relaxing environment.”
