Spring is here, and has been for some time. As the weather warms up and layers of clothing come off, some people take it too far. In a school setting, it is important to remember not to cross the line of modesty.
The EHS student handbook explicitly states, “Clothes that expose the back, sides, or midriff of a student are not appropriate for the school setting and are not acceptable.” But students cannot walk through the hallways without catching glimpses of the aforementioned body parts.
It is important to remember that the school is supposed to be a professional setting. Once teenagers enter the workforce, they will be expected to follow stricter dress codes according to their professions.
Exposing too much skin is not only unprofessional, but it can also be dangerous. At school, it is more of a matter of discomfort in the arctic-like air conditioning. In future professions, exposed skin can lead to injuries like chemical burns or stray staples.
Many of the latest fashions include the prominent display of skin. It may be difficult to find more modest clothing, but it is not impossible. If nothing else, a sense of modesty should keep students from exhibiting too much at school. More modest clothing is classier.
