For many EHS students, iOS 7 became available around noon on Sept. 18. Excitement rattled the walls of the school and many students couldn’t wait to rush home and hit “download.” This update is one of the most dramatic updates Apple has released since the original reveal of the iPhone in 2007. The question is, is it worth it?
Being a devoted Apple product user myself, the news of the update excited me. After seeing videos and pictures of the redesigned home screen and interior of the phone, I couldn’t wait to update.
When the day finally came, I wasn’t sure if I’d like it or not. I’m not always one for change, but the excitement got the best of me, and as soon as I got home, I went for it. After sitting through the painful wait of nearly two hours, the installation was complete. Despite the fact that I had to clear out a majority of my apps, delete my texts and say goodbye to my pictures, I fell in love with the new design.
Just as Apple promised, iOS 7 provides a whole new level of dimension. It’s sleek, it’s fresh and best of all, it’s efficient.
One of the best features of the new update is the control center—a pull up menu that provides utilities in the swipe of a finger. I no longer have to find brightness control in my settings. Control center contains this along with a flashlight, calculator, camera, alarm clock, music sound settings, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, and more.
iOS 7 continues to amaze me—I’m discovering new quirks left and right. The camera now contains edit options and an increased shutter speed, along with the capability to size it to an Instagram-ready photo. It’s pure bliss for a photo lover like myself.
If you’re an iPhone user and maybe you’re not a fan of the update, I challenge you to give yourself time to adjust. In time, you may start to appreciate the new structure and its advantages.
To the rest of you who are hesitating to update, I’m asking you to reconsider. You’ll love the change—it feels like a brand new phone. It’ll be like Christmas three months early.
