Top 8 Ways to Ask Someone to Homecoming
September 22, 2016
Asking someone to homecoming can seem old fashioned and cheesy but it is tradition.
And whether you want to admit it or not, everyone wants to have a date; therefore, everyone wants to be asked.
Here are a few of the best ways to ask someone:
***
- Poster Boards
This technique is old but it seems to work almost every single time.
The poster board proposal can be perfected in four simple steps.
- Buy a poster board.
- Create a punny and original expression asking them to homecoming (this usually has to do with the activity they are involved in or something they like a lot) and write it on the board.
- Decorate the board.
- Hold the poster board up so they can read it, in front of everyone, and wait for a reply.
- Eggplant Mail
I know this sounds awkward and unusual but I find this to be hilarious, unique and whoever you are asking will never forget this HoCo proposal.
All you have to do is go on eggplantmail.com and hit “Buy Now.” Then the website will direct you to where you can add the message, the address of the person you want to send the eggplant to and pay the $13 fee.
Your message will be written on a fresh eggplant in gold sharpie and then sent through snail mail to the date of your wishes. Then you can expect a “yes” or “no” from your sweetheart within five to seven days of ordering your eggplant.
However, if you are as impatient as I am you can go buy your eggplant at the local grocery store, write your message upon it in your own sharpie and personally hand them it.
Overall this is just supposed to be funny and memorable so be creative.
- Theater Marquee
This one is a little less veggie and a little more extravagant.
Simply ask your local theater if they will allow you to put “[Date’s name], will you go to HoCo with me?” upon the marquee.
This is a little more public than some prefer but if you and your desired date have been together for a while, then I think this is one of the perfect ways to ask them.
- Apple Orchard
Picking apples is always fun, so why not make a date out of your HoCo proposal?
Invite your boo-thang to go apple picking at the local orchard and right at the end mention you picked the very best apple and show them a big red one with their name and “HoCo?” written on the apple.
Hopefully they will understand that you are picking them as a HoCo date and hopefully they will say “yes.”
If so, then the two of you can take cute pictures at the orchard with your questioning apple and all will be well.
- Original Song
Writing a song doesn’t come easily to everyone but for those out there who are musically inclined; this one might be the best for you.
Dig deep down in those feels and serenade your honey with an entrancing song about you asking them to HoCo and presumably they will say “yes.”
Because who doesn’t love to be serenaded?
Or, if you can’t make up your own song, you could change the lyrics to a popular song on the radio and ask them through your new ‘yonce ballad.
- Scavenger Hunt
Planning is very involved for this choice but it makes for a fun and memorable day.
Give them a “first clue” that will lead them continuously to the next ones all around town, their house, a park, etc.
Make sure the last clue will lead them to your stationary position and then at the end of the scavenger hunt, you will be standing there, waiting to romantically ask them to be your date.
- Message on a Cake
Everybody loves cake and if you don’t, you’re lying.
Therefore, you can simply run over to your nearest bakery and order a regular cake, ice cream cake, cookie cake, etc. and have your proposal message atop the delicious dessert in colorful icing.
Next you can have your date over for dinner and present the cake for them to admire, accept and consume.
- Puppy Love
As long as your date isn’t allergic to dogs, this one should work just fine.
To prepare, all you have to do is attach a small sign to your dog’s collar that reads “HoCo?” and have him/her hold a rose in their mouth.
When you’re ready to pop the question you can have them sit in front of your date where they can read it and preferably the dog will sit still long enough for them to read the sign and accept your dog’s offer.

Asking someone can be stressful but, if you take it step-by-step and make it be thoughtful, the process should be a breeze.
So whether your asking technique involves an eggplant or a dog, your desired date will appreciate the effort put into the question and, hopefully, a “yes” will enthusiastically be given in return.
