Alma Carver is one of seven candidates running for three seats on District 7’s School Board from inside the largest Edwardsville Township in the 2025 Consolidated Madison County elections.
Carver is an attorney, a district alum and has children she plans to enter into the district. She says her work as an attorney will “lend itself well to the role of a board member” because she has “extensive experience dealing with stakeholders of all levels.”
She says her primary interest in running is to be a learner and a problem solver to ensure that she can come to the table with the best educated understanding as she can.
“I genuinely want to know what folks’ concerns are, and I want to be a problem solver to help understand what those issues are and then identify ways we can move forward productively to get better outcomes that will satisfy a bigger group of individuals,” she said.
If elected, Carver says she is “more interested in understanding how the current policies are being utilized, evaluated, and implemented,” rather than implementing new policies, so as to ensure accountability.
Her view on changing the school start times and class schedules — which was the most prevalent issue among polled EHS students — is that there are many considerations that merit community involvement.
“I love the idea of a seven period day. I think it gives students more opportunity to take classes that they may otherwise not get a chance to take,” she said. “But there are also considerations, How is this impacting the currently existing classes? Are we shortening those classes? Are we considering how this is impacting teachers, and the number of student contacts they’re having?”
Overall, Carver said she wants to ensure that “all students have an opportunity to reach their full potential.”
