Sara Bauer is one of seven candidates running for three seats on District 7’s School Board from inside the largest Edwardsville Township in the 2025 Consolidated Madison County elections.
Bauer is a parent of two students in District 7 schools who started attending school board meetings a year and a half ago and wants to serve on the board because she feels she can “bring back the level of empathy that teachers and students need to see from their Board of Education.”
“I want to be a school board member because we have lost the human connection between the Board of Education and our current students and teachers,” she said. “My goal will be to work on making sure the board, administration, teachers, students and parents are in sync.”
If elected, Bauer says rather than working on changing certain policies, she would like to “see more oversight of the current policies,” because she’s “concerned that many of our policies aren’t being properly enforced.”
Bauer’s view on changing the school start times and class schedules — which was the most prevalent issue among polled EHS students — is that more research and surveying of the students needs to occur so as to ensure the best outcome.
She also says that she would like to “oversee the superintendent through a system of checks and balances,” because that’s what the community is looking for in a school board member, and she wants to be the “voice for the children and teachers.”
Overall, Bauer says that she will take the oath seriously and act with integrity and honesty as a board member so that she can help the children, the parents and the teachers.
“I am an independent thinker, but I have an open mind and am always open to hearing the opinions of others,” she said. “I want parents to feel I am approachable and can sit and discuss things on their heart and share with me their concerns and provide recommendations without feeling judged.”
