EHS’ football team has managed to remain undefeated throughout their entire regular season. It ended Oct. 25 with a 20-0 win over Belleville East.
The game was the last home game for the Tigers and a victory over the self-proclaimed “Beasts” was much deserved after outscoring all other opponents 379-75 in only nine games.
It’s not only local fans that are taking notice. The St. Louis Post Dispatch has named four players in the top 10 of some categories.
Junior quarterback Dan Marinko was named the 3rd best quarterback in the greater St. Louis area. With 141 completed passes (26 of which resulting in touchdowns) totaling for over 2200 yards, Marinko has something to be proud of.
“It’s really an honor for the Post to name me the 3rd best,” Marinko said. “I really just wanted to put on for my school.”
The Post placed senior wide-receiver Darius Crochrell at sixth in the receiving leaders category. Over 700 yards in 54 receptions is huge for the Tigers.
Under the Punt Return average category, the Post placed two Tigers back to back.
Senior Craig James takes first place with 175 yards in just two punt returns. Close behind in second place is junior Tommy Maxwell with 70 yards with one punt return.
“It’s really cool that I was able to do this for my team, but you have to know that it wasn’t just me. My team had some awesome blocks that allowed me to do that,” James said.
The Tigers are now headed into postseason play with some pretty steady momentum. Senior Kavan Weiss is looking forward to the first playoff game. “We’ve really been able to come together as a team and perform at a much higher level than in years past,” Weiss said. “The undefeated season is a huge confidence boost. With that, we can head into these playoffs knowing what we’re capable of.”
The Tigers’ first playoff game is this Friday at home against St. Andrew. The game is a blackout, so come out and support your Tigers while wearing black!
