The EHS Girls’ Varsity Basketball Team won their home sectionals game this Thursday, Feb. 27 against Bradley Bourbonnais Community High School with a final score of 46-41.
The first quarter ended neck-and-neck at 10-10 with back-and-forth play. Bradley picked up second quarter, finishing the first half with a score of 20-26, which included a 3-point shot on the final buzzer.
The Tigers would not leave without a fight with senior Aaliyah Covington shot a two-pointer 15 seconds into the third quarter. After an impressive rebound from senior Kortney Dunbar, Covington shot another two-point shot with less than a minute left in the third. Senior Leeah Jason topped off the quarter with two successful free-throws, bringing the score to 38-34.
EHS maintained a lead through the fourth, tensions running high in the last few minutes when the score reached a close 44-41. With 45 seconds left on the clock, Dunbar made a two-point shot, reaching the final score 46-41.
“The kids have done a great job this year and will have a tough challenge in the game Monday night,” head Coach Lori Blade said.
