Football season is upon us. The tailgating, body-paint, kooky fan attire and drunken adults are here to stay for a while.
There is one thing in particular that is more important to most than their own favorite professional football team. In fact, this one thing is so important that it takes away time from study habits for some teenagers and even takes away time from adults for tasks that need to be accomplished behind the work desk. This “one thing” is fantasy football.
I have been a firsthand witness to these accusations of mine. I have seen kids spend hours on their cellphones or computers researching which player to put into their starting lineup to make it complete. Now, don’t get me wrong, I love fantasy sports but I would not spend even an hour checking my lineup for that week.
EHS senior Fahd Shakeel views it differently. “I live for fantasy sports. Over the summer I spend most of my days preparing for fantasy baseball and when it comes time, fantasy football.” Shakeel a fantasy guru and addict, acknowledges the fact that he may concentrate copious amounts of time setting his starting lineup while he could be focusing on other things. Although, Shakeel does recognize that he gets satisfaction from his team performing well that week.
Experts do say that although fantasy sports are not real, they provide the feeling of general managing your own professional team. ESPN’s Senior Fantasy Sports Analyst, Matthew Berry agrees. Once on broadcasting, Berry explained the similarities of owning a professional team and managing a fantasy team.
