The back-to-back Southwestern Conference champions EHS Tigers are set on to take Homewood Flossmoor Vikings this Saturday at 6 p.m. The Tigers are looking to continue their hunt for their first state championship in EHS football history.
Flossmoor brings a running game attack that is detrimental to most defenses. The running back duo of junior twins Deante and Devonte Harley-Hampton bring trouble to the Tigers defense. “Both backs are full of speed” said EHS backup quarterback Mick Peddicord who has spent hours watching game film.
So far this year the EHS defense has shutout three teams and held their opponents to an average of 11.2 points per game. The stellar defense is led by senior linebacker Zac Rujawitz and senior defensive linemen Jeff Clubb. Both Rujawitz and Clubb are three year starters.
“The quarterback play is something we’ve seen before in conference games. The tailbacks can be troublesome but we’re up for the challenge” said Clubb.
The Tigers offense has been clicking the past few games which is a good sign heading into the depths of the playoffs. The Tigers have averaged 32.4 points per game so far this season.
Although they are missing junior starting running back Jackson Morrissey who shattered his ankle in a game against O’fallon, they still have last years 7A quarterback of the year senior Dan Marinko. Marinko will be accompanied by his favorite target wide receiver Fontez Davis.
“This is a tough team, they’re physical, they’re fast, they’re strong,” senior wide receiver Monty Sharpe said, “we need everyone at the game.”
