The boys of the Tiger Ice Hockey team have a legacy to live up to year after year. With EHS winning their third consecutive MVCHA championship last year, the boys made history.
Last year, in a three game series against Triad the Tigers worked to set the record of winning three consecutive MVCHA championships. After beating Triad 4-3 in a remarkably tough game, the Tigers earned the right to say that they are the best. Now in the 2014-15 season the boys are ready for another title.
So far, they are off to a great start. Coming into 2015, they remain undefeated on the season. With a shutout against their biggest rival, Alton, they have a chance to set another record.
After losing eight strong seniors last year, the team has new leadership coming to step it up. Senior Justin Warta got the title of captain this year with assistant captains being seniors Shaun and Brendan Raftery and Cody Farmer.
“It is hard to adjust but I think we are able to compete just like last year,” said Junior Jake Aurelio
Although the team doesn’t have their own local rink, there is always a student fan section there to cheer on the boys against any team they face. Also, for people who can’t make the games, there is an EHS Hockey twitter page, which is run by the coaches, with updates throughout the whole game.
The EHS Hockey team is not just one team, but it includes four different level teams. With Varsity being 2A and the second team varsity is 1A and the other two JV teams are EHS North and EHS South, each having a full team.
The boys still have a little ways to go before setting more records, but the boys are putting in the hard work to help them make it to the top yet again.
