Ice Hockey Continues Success on Senior Night
January 8, 2016
The Ice Hockey senior night proved to be a successful game with a fast and easy win.
The Ice Hockey team played their senior night on Jan. 4 at East Alton against Bethalto. The game ended 13-1 using the 12 point deficit short-game rule with 12:22 left in the third period.
“The team really came together and played a fast and skilled game,” senior Sam Bramstedt said. “The guys did a great job getting the puck to the seniors as well.”
The Tigers started their senior night off with a bang. Just nine seconds into the game, senior Tyler Hinterser scored the first goal of the night. Hinterser ended the game with a hat trick.
He wasn’t the only big scorer of the night: junior Tyler Schaffer ended the night with two goals and four assists.
The boys kept up the momentum for the rest of the game. Junior Carson Lewis added to the lead only four minutes later to make the game 2-0.
By the end of the first period, the Tigers had a commanding 7-1 lead. Scorers in the first quarter were Lewis with one goal, junior Connor Stewart with one goal, Hinterser with three goals, senior Christian Blandina with one goal and junior Logan Bielicke with one goal.
The lead only grew as the game went on. With 13:41 remaining in the second period, senior Jake Aurelio scored to increase the lead to 8-1.
Others to score in the second period were Schaffer, Lewis and junior Trevor Henson.
The game ended when junior Reilly Patton scored assisted by Schaffer and junior Logan Bielicke.
The Tigers outshot Bethalto 50-9 and added a win to their record to make it 15-0.
“We get big heads sometimes,” Bramstedt said. “But, our adversity this season has been finding a way to keep improving against weak teams, but I think when it’s time to play the big games, it will have made us closer as a team.”
As for the rest of the season, the team is confident in their abilities to do well.
“Because we beat everybody this season, I don’t think it will be too hard to do it again in the postseason,” junior Colin Fischer said. “That being said, there are a few teams that [we have to keep an eye on], but they shouldn’t be a problem if we play as we usually do.”
The team doesn’t have a set plan for postseason except for the play to the best of their ability.
“The postseason in our league will just be 4-6 more games,” Bramstedt said. “We’re going to show up, do our business and hopefully, we will win.”
