Edwardsville Soccer Season Looks Up Despite First Loss

The boys on the Edwardsville Tiger soccer team have been going all season without a loss until this Saturday against Aurora West.

Edwardsville soccer traveled this last weekend to Morton, Il. and finished second in the Morton Invitational Tournament. They lost in penalty kicks to Aurora West. Edwardsville’s current record is 8-1-2.

“It wasn’t our best game given we had played a game already that day,” junior Ethan Miracle said. “Everyone was tired and just weren’t 100 percent.”

Miracle is currently listed as one of the goal leaders in the Southwestern conference. He has scored nine goals this season, including a goal this weekend at the Morton Tournament against Glenbrook South, who Edwardsville beat 6-0.

Senior Alex Kehrer hopes the team can keep up the wins like that for the rest of the season.

“We have three conference games left and wins in all of those would really help our case. The loss this past weekend doesn’t affect our conference record, but it affects our overall record,” Kehrer said.

Edwardsville is the No. 1 seed in their conference as of the third week of the conference, moving up from their third seed spot from the week prior. While Edwardsville’s overall record reflects the loss from the Morton Tournament, their conference record is a spotless 5-0-1.

Miracle, Kehrer and junior Seth Goodman all have a positive outlook despite the recent loss. With such a great record, the whole team is aiming high.

“I feel like we can go far into the playoffs,” Goodman said. “And maybe even win the state title if we can keep up our play.”
