As temperatures begin to cool, the sun begins to set sooner, and those Friday night lights begin to turn on, it means one thing: football season.

The Tigers hosted their annual Black and Orange Scrimmage on Aug. 23, which displays talent from all levels of football. But the main attraction was the varsity scrimmage. This gave fans and students their first look at this year’s team in action.

Disappointment was widespread when the EHS scrimmage against Althoff Catholic High School was canceled due to weather, and now the team has gotten its  first chance for a game day feeling.

“We just get to hit someone… full pads is [sic]  just good,” senior running back Malachi Revis said.

The game-speed-like environment the players perform in can be very beneficial, and it can even give them a chance to impress some coaches.

“The scrimmage really shows if you know what you’re doing and can execute it in a short amount of time,” senior linebacker Eric Epenesa said.

While the team did get a chance earlier in the summer to play in its 7-on-7 scrimmages against other schools, they did not involve full pads.

The scrimmage was the Tigers’ chance to do just that.

“When we played that Black and Orange Scrimmage, it’s the first real game-like situation where we get to showcase our talent and hard work,” senior linebacker Evan Ramirez said.

While the game ended in a draw, it wasn’t about the score at the end of the night. It was about feeling out the team and seeing how prepared it will be for its first game on Sept. 6.

“They made the scrimmage similar to game speed so they know what they have to improve on when watching film,” Epenesa said.

As a new season begins, the players are ready to go out there and fight. Malachi Revis is ecstatic about the new season and thinks “everyone plays well together.”
