Sometimes you meet the people that mean the most to you in the most astonishing ways. Some people are connected by things that interest them, others just by a fluke.
In the case of Kenny Inman, 37, and Cindy Inman, 36, it happened to be a fluke. They met at a McDonalds in Alton, Ill. What started out as a simple way to get food fast, turned into a long marriage. They have now been married for 25 years and counting.
“I was so embarrassed when this man came up to me, clearly trying to get my number and I was stuffing my face with a Big Mac,” said Cindy. Little did she know that this man would be the one that she would later marry.
“Never would I have imagined meeting my future wife in a McDonalds,” says Kenny.
You never know about the places you could find that special someone.
Dylan Thompson, 16, met his girlfriend, Emma Tantio, 15, on Facebook. For teens, this is a common way of meeting new people. Thompson and Tantio had never met before Facebook. They talked on and off for about a year before they started dating.
“It takes a lot of trust and communication to make a long-distance relationship work, but it is going really well so far,” says Thompson. They are able to make their relationship withstand the distance between them through technology.
Technology is exactly how Morgan Griffiths and her boyfriend, Chris Percy, met. It began when he added her for a game of Words with Friends. She added him when she recognized his name from other people talking about him. He knew her because she was his best friend’s brother’s ex-girlfriend.
After adding her on Facebook, they started to see each other more passing through the school hallways. Soon they began talking and eventually they began dating.
“Its been about four and a half months, and to be honest I thought he was a creep when he just randomly added me on Words with Friends,” says Griffiths.
Not everyone meets through technology, though. For Cydney Kilgore and Preeaye Roper, it was a more casual meeting. They met in the eighth grade while at lunch. They have now been dating for about a year and a month. Both are sophomores in high school but they don’t have lunch together anymore or even go to the same school. Kilgore moved the summer of her freshman year, but their relationship stays strong.
“We have our ups and downs, but what relationship doesn’t?” Kilgore said.
Many people who have tried online chat rooms are often disappointed. Those who have found a relationship think it is better to go to places and do things you enjoy and talk to people who have the same common interests. So do not go searching for that special someone because you are likely to find them in the most unexpected places.
