The warm weather has been rolling in, and spring is almost here. It’s time to throw out the coffee and hot chocolate and start getting your favorite frozen treats.
Edwardsville has a few great places to grab summer treats as the temperature gets hotter.
The first place, a favorite of mine, is the Northside Dairy Haven. I love it because I live nearby and it’s easy to go up there and grab some ice cream whenever I want. But they do have quality ice cream and regular food (if you don’t want ice cream). Northside is an Edwardsville staple; everyone loves Northside.
Another popular Edwardsville hotspot is Annie’s Frozen Custard, and lucky for you there are two in Edwardsville. “One of my favorite places (for ice cream) is Annie’s,” junior Kirstin Willeford said. Annie’s is a great place to go if you’re in town, walking around. You can be shopping in town and go grab custard and continue on your way. It’s a great place to go have ice cream with some friends.
A little farther out of town is great joint called Bobby’s. If you are looking for even more atmosphere, this is defiantly the place for you. Bobby’s exudes timelessness. They are always playing 50s music, which makes you feel like you stepped into ‘Grease’. Their ice cream is top notch, and with a large variety of toppings, you just can’t go wrong. “Their ice cream is beyond amazing,” junior Nejua Freeze said.
However, if you aren’t in the mood for ice cream, don’t fret. There are two tasty places in town that are sure to get you hooked.
Orange Leaf is a frozen yogurt place near Edwardsville High School. After school lets out for the day or when spring break rolls around make sure to stop in for an after school snack. When you get your frozen yogurt, you actually weigh the cup which will then tell you how much it cost. You also have the option to put on your own toppings.
Who doesn’t love the classic snow cone? They have always been a summer favorite as old as time itself. If you get tired of ice cream or you are not an ice cream fan at all then head to Tropical Sno. Junior Hadleigh Perigo’s favorite is red raspberry and pineapple and makes an effort be there the day it opens every year. Tropical Sno doesn’t look like too much but their snow cones and slushies are a great way to cool down on a hot day.
These delightful treats are a great way to battle the Midwest heat this summer.
