Once you step foot inside of Uncle Munkey’s, you walk through a time machine to the 1980’s. Pages of old-school comic books cover the walls, trying to distract you from the flashing lights of the retro pinball machines. It only gets better when you add loads of arcade games, such as Super Mario Bros and Pacman, to the mix. None of these games could be played on an empty stomach, although. That’s why Uncle Munkey’s also cooks delicious food and have a huge bar so you can order drinks to wash it all down.
I went in there with my family and couldn’t get my dad off the Baywatch pinball machine. I don’t know if it was because of the big picture of Pamela Anderson on it, or because he was busy setting a new high score. It was like he turned into a kid again. That’s what Uncle Munkey’s will do to you.
Another great thing? It’s only 50 cents to play a game of pinball, and 25 cents to play an arcade game. I was in there for an hour and spent $5. It’s very hard to find fun for that cheap nowadays.
Uncle Munkey’s is a fantastic way to spend a night with friends. You can team up with a friend and play the 2-player shooting games, or battle a friend in the countless other multiplayer arcade games. Or just play solo and see if you can set a high score or two. Whatever choice you make and whatever game you play, you’re guaranteed a fun time.
Even if you don’t like arcade or pinball games, the food is worth a taste. Though they don’t cook up fancy plates like filet mignon, they offer great appetizers such as quesadillas and chicken wings. The bar, though mainly for adults, offers a couple unique sodas you can’t find anywhere else. They have a black cherry soda, a unique orange soda, a mint soda and a special kind of root beer, all of which they brew themselves.
Give Uncle Munkey’s a try, and if you don’t go back, you’re either a couch potato or just plain bananas.
