Prom will be a night of luxury and romance, as the prom committee transforms the SIUE Meridian ballroom into one fit for kings and queens on May 3.
Under the theme “Whispers of Elegance,” students will enjoy a magical night of Regency-period charm with modern additions.
“It’s a fun and unique theme that a lot of the students were hoping for,” head of prom committee Sairee Knabe said. “I think this theme gives so much creative freedom and has the potential to be so classy.”
The prom committee spent weeks working to bring the vision to life.
Senior Gabi Hill was responsible for making the promotional video to announce the theme and prom date.
“I put together different clips I found from Bridgerton and added the theme song from the show,” Hill said. “It took me a good amount of time, but I’m very proud of how it turned out.”
From venue setup to table dressings, all the details are meant to transport visitors to the world of 19th-century high society.
Senior Allison Robbins’ mother is working with the committee to provide elegant flower arrangements for centerpieces and other spaces in the venue.
“I think it’s so cool to be able to have my mom help decorate for my senior prom,” Robbins said. “It makes it even more special.”
Attendees who prefer to adhere to the theme, their dresses or suits can lend themselves to be more grandiose. Ladies wearing heavy gowns with hoop skirts and gentlemen wearing … much of the same attire as usual.
The excitement is visible as students plan their outfits for the evening, hoping their looks meet the expectations of the evening’s theme.
Entertainment will be both old and new. With classical music for slow dances mixed with hype school dance favorites like the “Cha Cha Slide,” “Fireball,” “Party in the USA” and many more.
The DJ from last year’s prom will also be making a reappearance, so students can expect their music experience to remain consistent.
Teasers about more prom details will be released as the date approaches.
“Make sure to get a copy of the Lady Whisper society papers,” Hill said. “They’ll have some important information and even some interesting teacher gossip.”
The Prom committee continues to finalize details and prepare for the fast-approaching date.
“I think prom is shaping up to be very elegant and glamorous so far,” Hill said. “It will be very exciting.”
